Retrospectively, CCAPAD was conceived in 2004 at the peak of the series of crises that intensely engulfed Jos North and most parts of the Plateau leading to colossal loss of lives, destruction of properties and polarization of settlements along religious and tribal sentiments.
Plateau State which is located in the North Central geo-political zone of Nigeria, with about 3.2 million people (according to the 2006 census figures) has 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and is often described as a miniature Nigeria with over 40 indigenous ethnic groups. It served as a commercial hub to all other ethnic groups across Nigeria during the mining era, hence the current presence of several ethnic groups in the State. It also has large number of farmers who are engaged in subsistence agriculture as well as grazing pastoralist. Jos North LGA is the headquarters of the State.
